Accessibility Statement
Making the Equate Group website usable for everyone.
Our commitment
Equate Group is committed to making equategroup.com accessible to everyone who visits it, including people with visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive disabilities. Accessibility is a core part of how we design and build, not an afterthought.
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the accessibility standard used by UK public sector websites and widely adopted in the private sector as the baseline.
What we've done
- Keyboard-only navigation is supported everywhere on the site
- A visible Skip to main content link is available at the top of every page
- Semantic HTML so screen readers can navigate the site using headings, landmarks, and lists
- All interactive controls have visible focus states that meet contrast requirements
- Text and background contrast tested to meet or exceed 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text
- Images carry descriptive alt text; purely decorative images use empty alt attributes so screen readers skip them
- Forms use clear labels, error messages, and required-field indicators
- Layouts work on desktop, tablet, and mobile without relying on hover or precise mouse movements
- The site works with browser zoom up to 200% without content being cut off
- Colour is never used as the only way to convey information
Known issues
We're not perfect and we're honest about where we fall short. Issues we're aware of and working to resolve:
- A small number of older blog posts imported from our previous site may be missing hero image alt text. New posts enforce it via our content schema.
- Embedded third-party widgets (such as the iBillie customer billing portal on the Billing page) may not meet the same standard as the rest of our site. We've flagged this with the supplier.
How we test
- Automated accessibility checks in our build pipeline
- Manual keyboard-only navigation review on every page template
- Screen reader review using VoiceOver, NVDA, and TalkBack
- Colour contrast audits using WebAIM's tools
- Review of new templates against WCAG 2.1 AA success criteria before release
